Games++ is a free 12-hour game development event where participants build games from scratch over 10 hours, then put down their mice and pencils so the public can play their creations. Individuals and teams of all ages and experience are welcome - last year we had over 120 participants and hope you will join us!
Designed as a collaborative, communal making experience, games++ incrementally adds to the pool of amazing, experimental, unique, one-off games in the world.
Starting at 9:00am, participants craft video-, board-, and other games from scratch. No prior planning is allowed: all games will be created from start to finish in just 10 hours. At 7:00pm all work stops and the doors open to the public to play the finished projects!
Never made a game? That's ok! Use games++ as a chance to make your first game, but it's important to know that games++ isn't a workshop or class. You must bring all necessary materials and equipment**. First-time game makers are encouraged to work in teams on a board game.
We will provide**:
Wondering what to bring? We've put together some suggestions.
Participation in games++ is always free!
To prevent planning before the event (cheating), all games will be made according to a super-secret theme, revealed at the start of the jam. The secret theme for 2016 is:
Duplicate, two-sided, rolling doubles, double-agents, etc, etc, etc.
Your badge is also a game! See the rules here.
Your use of the theme can be as loose and tenuous as you like - think of it as a jumping-off point! Previous themes include Capture, Metamorphosis, and Overlay.
Anyone! We welcome game-makers of all skill levels and ages (younger game makers should collaborate with a parent). Artists, designers, writers, game-enthusiasts, programmers, crafters, hackers, and anyone else interested in making a new board- or video-game should register!
Games++ is dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion. We do not tolerate harassment of in any form. Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate for this kind of public event. Games++ participants violating these rules may be expelled from the event at the discretion of the jam organizers. (Thanks to JSConf, whose policy we modified to create this one.)
Don't make games? The public is invited to join us at 7:00pm to play the results and vote on the winners!
